According to the very thorough research in the records of casualties suffered by the division presented by Meyer, it is clear that the division lost about 8, 000 officers and men, killed, wounded and missing ... ( and ) ... it is clear it had around 12, 000 men on 22 August 1944.
Even though most of its infantry were casualties, the division was far from destroyed.
