The adrenal cortex is devoted to production of corticosteroid and androgen hormones.

Specific cortical cells produce particular hormones including aldosterone, cortisol, and androgens such as androstenedione.

Under normal unstressed conditions, the human adrenal glands produce the equivalent of 35 – 40 mg of cortisone acetate per day.
