In the Dymshits – Kuznetsov hijacking affair on 15 June 1970, a group of Soviet refuseniks attempted to hijack a civilian aircraft in order to escape to the West, were caught and spent many years in Soviet prisons.
This case is politically distinct in the sense that the government of Israel-which strongly denounced other cases of Aircraft hijacking-endorsed this one and declared its participants to be heroes and martyrs for the Zionist cause.
This was denounced as a double standard by left-wing critics such as then Knesset Member Charlie Biton.
