With the remnants of his division, Valdés managed to retreat to the heights of his rearguard where he joined 200 riders that had gathered around general Canterac and some dispersed soldiers from royalist divisions whose fleeing demoralized men even shot and kill their own officers who intended to regroup them.

With the main body of the royal army destroyed and the viceroy himself in the hands of his enemies, royalists leaders surrendered.
