One such lost piece, Pissarro's 1897 oil painting, " Rue St. Honoré, Apres Midi, Effet de Pluie ," was discovered hanging at Madrid's government-owned museum, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.

However, in January 2011, the Spanish government denied a request by the U. S. ambassador to return the painting to the Cassirer family in California, which claims with proof that it was among those illegally taken by Nazis in Germany.

The case is scheduled for trial by the U. S. District Ct. in Los Angeles July 3, 2012.
