Carnival in Haiti started in 1935 in the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince.
The Port-au-Prince Carnival is one of the largest in the Caribbean and North America.
Carnival in Haiti is also known as Kanaval in the Creole language.
Haiti Carnival always starts in January, known as ' Pre-Kanaval ', and the main carnival activities begin in February each year.
In July, Haiti has another carnival called Kanaval de Fleur.
In Haitian Carnival, there are beautiful costumes, floats, Rara parades, masks, foods, and popular Konpa bands known around the world, such as T-Vice, Djakout # 1, Sweet Micky also known as the new president of Haiti Michel Martelly, Kreyol La, D. P.
Express, Mizik Mizik, Ram, T-Micky, Carimi, and Scorpio Fever, who play for dancers in the streets of the Champ du Mars plaza.
In Haiti there are also competitions between some band like T-Vice, Djakout # 1, Kreyol La, and Krezi Mizik.
Every year Haiti's carnival draws visitors from other countries.
