Chaplin's 100th birthday anniversary in 1989 was celebrated with several events.
On his birthday, 16 April, City Lights was screened at a gala at the Dominion Theatre in London, the site of its British premiere in 1931.
In Hollywood, a screening of a restored version of How to Make Movies was held at his former studio, and in Japan, he was honoured with a musical tribute.
Retrospectives of his work were presented that year at The National Film Theatre in London, the Munich Stadtmuseum and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, which also dedicated a gallery exhibition, Chaplin: A Centennial Celebration, to him.
On 15 April 2011, a day before his 122nd birthday anniversary, Google celebrated him with a special Google Doodle video on its global and other country-wide homepages.
