In February 1866, Mary Baker Eddy ( known at the time as Mary Glover ) was healed of an injury " that neither medicine nor surgery could reach ..." ( Ret 24: 12 ).
According to her personal accounts, when she appeared to be near death, she called out for her Bible.
She turned it to Matthew 9: 2, which tells the story of Jesus healing a man who was sick with palsy, and after pondering the meaning of the passage, found herself suddenly well and able to get up.
In her autobiography, Retrospection and Introspection, she wrote:
