Congress provided funding for shutting the remaining camps down in 1942 with the equipment being reallocated .. It became a model for conservation programs that were implemented in the period after World War II.
Present day corps are national, state and local programs that engage primarily youth and young adults ( ages 16 – 25 ) in community service, training and educational activities.
The Corps Network, known originally as the National Association of Service and Conservation Corps ( NASCC ) works to expand and enhance corps-type programs throughout the country.
The Corps Network began during 1985, when the nation's first 24 Corps directors banded together to secure an advocate at the federal level and a repository of information on how best to start and manage a corps.
Early financial assistance from the Ford, Hewlett and Mott Foundations was critical to establishing the association.
