According to a 2004 French study conducted by INSERM, cognitive behavioral therapy was the most effective therapy when compared with psychoanalysis and family or couples therapy.
The study used meta-analysis of over a hundred secondary studies to find some level of effectiveness that was either " proven " or " presumed " to exist.
Of the treatments CBT was found to be presumed or proven effective at treating schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress, anxiety disorders, bulimia, anorexia, personality disorders and alcohol dependency.
