Unexpectedly he survived, leaving Roy and Hayley fearing for their lives in anticipation of what he might do.

After overhearing Hayley telling Maria that he had killed her husband, Tony confronted Roy by the canal.

A physical confrontation ensued and Tony pushed Roy into the canal.

However Tony then rescued Roy from the water and confessed to Liam's murder to the police.
