It is important to keep in mind that conflict theory while derived from Marxism, is distinct from it.

Marxism is an ideology, accordingly it is not empirically tested.

Conversely, conflict theory is empirically falsifiable and thus, distinct from Marxism ( Cao, 2003 ).
