A WHO study released in January 2008 found that mass distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets and artemisinin – based drugs cut malaria deaths in half in Rwanda and Ethiopia, countries with high malaria burdens.

IRS with DDT did not play an important role in mortality reduction in these countries.
