James E. Norris died in December 1952.
He was succeeded as team president by his daughter, Marguerite, the first ( and as of the 2006 – 07 season, only ) woman to head an NHL franchise.
She made no secret of her dislike for Adams.
While she could have summarily fired him, since he was still without a contract, she chose not to do so.
