The Dragoon Guards of the “ Field Marshal Domingo Nieto ” Life-Guard Escort Cavalry Regiment of the President of the Republic of Perú were the traditional Guard of the Government Palace of Perú until March 5, 1987 and disbandment in that year.

However by Ministerial Resolution No 139-2012 / DE / EP of February 2, 2012 the restoration of the Cavalry Regiment " Marshal Domingo Nieto " as the official escort of the President of the Republic of Peru was announced.

The main mission of the reestablished regiment was to guarantee the security of the President of the Republic and of the Government Palace.
