Due to the growth experienced at Dublin Airport in recent years, the facility became congested.
One part or another of the airport has been a building site for the past two decades.
Despite the building works and extensions, it is widely accepted by the DAA that Terminal 1 and its infrastructure were insufficient to deal with the volume of passengers.
Both the Irish Government and the DAA have come under pressure from airlines and passengers alike to once-and-for-all provide a realistic increase in capacity for the future.
As a result, the DAA plan to invest € 2 billion in a 10-year capital development programme to effectively double the size of the passenger facilities of Dublin Airport.
