The series follows the adventures of a lascivious, widowed private detective duck, Eric T. Duckman who lives with his three sons, mother-in-law and sister-in-law Bernice ( his late wife Beatrice's identical twin ).

The tagline of the show, seen in the opening credits, is " Private Dick / Family Man " (" dick " being short for " detective ", as well as serving as a double entendre ).
