Kirghiz are another Turkic Muslim group who have aspired for independence.

They rebelled against the Xinjiang government in the Kirghiz rebellion, but were defeated by the Chinese Muslim Tao-yin Ma Shaowu.

They joined the Uighurs to fight against the Chinese Muslim 36th Division ( National Revolutionary Army ) at the Battle of Kashgar ( 1933 ) and Battle of Kashgar ( 1934 ), under the First East Turkestan Republic but they were defeated.
