Franklin Delano Roosevelt ( 1933 – 45 ), like his cousin Theodore Roosevelt, was an ardent conservationist.

He used numerous programs of the departments of Agriculture and Interior to end wasteful land-use, mitigate the effects of the Dust Bowl, and efficiently develop natural resources in the West.

One of the most popular of all New Deal programs was the Civilian Conservation Corps ( 1933 – 1943 ), which sent two million poor young men to work in rural and wilderness areas, primarily on conservation projects.
