Ultimately, the target was not met and only a single track between Loughborough and Quorn could be afforded ( BR allowed more time to raise funds to purchase Quorn to Rothley ).

The double track from Rothley to Belgrave & Birstall was lifted along with the ' down ' line from Loughborough to Rothley.
