The new Australian Government elected in 2007 issued an Apology similar to those that State Governments had issued at or about the time of the Them Home report ten years earlier.
On 13 February 2008, Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia moved a formal apology in the House of Representatives, which was moved concurrently by the Leader of the Government in the Senate.
It passed unanimously in the House of Representatives on 13 March 2008.
In the Senate the Australian Greens moved an amendment seeking to add compensation to the apology, against which all other parties voted, after which the motion was passed unanimously.
