The Grail has also been treated in works of non-fiction, which generally seek to interpret its meaning in novel ways.
Such a tack was taken by psychologists Emma Jung and Marie-Louise von Franz, who used analytical psychology to interpret the Grail as a series of symbols in their book The Grail Legend.
This type of interpretation had previously been used, in less detail, by Carl Jung, and was later invoked by Joseph Campbell.
