Hyundai's Alpha automobile engine was the first to be designed in Korea.
It was a modern SOHC 3-valve straight-4 and was available in turbo and naturally aspirated versions.
The first Alpha engine was introduced in 1993 in the Hyundai Scoupe and were available thru 2002.
Alphas were produced in 1. 3 L ( 1341 cc ) and 1. 5 L ( 1495 cc ) versions, with a 1. 6 L ( 1599 cc ) Alpha II produced from 2005 until 2011 when it was replaced with the Hyundai Gamma engine.
