Kanpur not only has the largest population in the state but is also the second largest Industrial Hub in Northern India after New Delhi region.
Traditionally Kanpur has elected Indian National Congress Representatives, whereas the party has become very weak in the state, causing the neglect of the city by the Regional Parties.
The city suffers among other things, immense power cuts, even in the Industrial Zones.
