Clinically speaking, menopause is tied to a specific date.
Assuming the woman still has a uterus, menopause is defined as the day after her final episode of menstrual flow finishes.
This date is fixed retrospectively, once 12 months have gone by with no menstrual flow at all.
At this point a woman is considered to be a year into postmenopause, is considered to be infertile, and no longer needs to take into consideration the possibility of pregnancy.
