Mooresville is primarily served by the Mooresville Graded School District, but is also partly in the Iredell-Statesville school system.

A proposal in the 2007 North Carolina state budget could have possibly consolidated the two systems.

It states that only one school system in a county would be funded.

It was stalled in committee though and failed passage.

Previous attempts to consolidate have been defeated.
