* Immunosuppressive drugs: prednisone, cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil and azathioprine may be used.

Patients are commonly treated with a combination of these drugs with an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor.

Treatments with some immunosuppressives take weeks to months before effects are noticed.

Other immunomodulating substances, such as drugs that prevent acetylcholine receptor modulation by the immune system, are currently being researched.
