The Navier – Stokes equations are used extensively in video games in order to model a wide variety of natural phenomena.
These include simulations of effects such as water, fire, smoke etc.
Many of the implementations used are based on the seminal paper " Real-Time Fluid Dynamics for Games " by J. Stam.
More recent implementations based upon this work run on the GPU as opposed to the CPU and achieve a much higher degree of performance.
