According to Murray, this is a result of the increase of lone parent families without a father figure.

As a result, the young males lack role models that demonstrate how to live in society correctly.

Murray believes the welfare dependency that these young men have lived on throughout their childhood has led them to a lack of work ethos, and subsequently pushed them towards a life of crime.
