In 1985 a Chair of Parapsychology was established within the Department of Psychology at the University of Edinburgh.

Robert Morris, a respected experimental parapsychologist from the United States took up the position, and with his research associates and PhD students pursued a comprehensive research programme.

Since Professor Morris ' death in 2004 the Chair of Parapsychology has remained vacant.
