In Switzerland, pardons may be granted by the Swiss Federal Assembly for crimes prosecuted by the federal authorities.

For crimes under cantonal jurisdiction, cantonal law designates the authority competent to grant pardons ( if any ).

In most cantons, the cantonal parliament may pardon felonies, and the cantonal government may pardon misdemeanors and minor infractions.
