Graduates of osteopathic medical schools in the United States should not be confused with osteopaths, who are found in the European and Commonwealth nations.

Osteopaths in this capacity are not medical school graduates and as such have a very limited alternative care role that is more aligned with being a chiropractor than with being a physician and health care provider.
