As wife of the Prince of Orange, Princess Máxima does not carry the title " Princess of Orange "-the title of Prince or Princess of Orange is reserved for, and only used by, the heir apparent to the throne.

When Prince Willem-Alexander ascends the throne, the current Hereditary Princess of Orange, Princess Catharina-Amalia, will become the Princess of Orange.
