The first church in town was erected by the Lutherans in the earliest days of the town, and was built of logs.

It was taken down in 1816 and removed to West Sand Lake, where it has since been known as the First Lutheran church of West Sand Lake.

One of its earliest benefactors was Stephen Van Rensselaer.
