Saxon released Unleash the Beast, which was produced by Kalle Trapp and Saxon.
Saxon began their Unleash The Beast tour in May, where they played all over Europe.
Unleash the Beast reached the top 100 in Sweden, Germany and Switzerland.
In November they played two gigs in Brazil ( São Paulo and Santos ) and ended the year with a Christmas show in Belgium.
In 1998, the band toured the US, as well as also playing the Brazilian Monsters Of Rock.
After relentless touring Saxon's drummer Nigel Glockler took time off the band to recover from a neck and shoulder injury.
He was temporally replaced by Fritz Randow.
