The mid-1960s brought a resurgence of episodic science fiction to the airwaves, mostly thanks to producer Irwin Allen.
In 1964, he launched Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea ( TV series ), based on his 1961 film of the same name.
The series ran for four seasons.
His next series, Lost in Space, a space opera which aired from 1965 to 1968, became popular with audiences, and quickly led to two other sci-fi favorites in 1966 ; Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants.
