She finds him, with Shardik dead and having suffered greatly after being captured by the slave trader Genshed.

Invited by the Southern aristocrat Elleroth, Kelderek and Melathys take up the governance of Zeray and the surrounding country of the Transvrako, which the South has plans to civilize and through it extend contact with neighboring empires.
