In 2007 two gay teenagers in Aberdeenshire were threatened with being removed from the bus because one had his arm round the shoulders of the second ; ' hug-in ' protests around Scotland then followed from members of the Scottish Socialist Party and gay rights activists, calling on Stagecoach to apologise.

For its part, Stagecoach has defended the actions of its driver.
