On February 14, 1984, Perry and Whitford, who left the band in 1979 and 1981 respectively, showed up at an Aerosmith show.

According to the band's Behind the Music special on VH1, Tyler alleges he made the first phone call to Perry encouraging them to meet up again.

Backstage, they all met, and Perry and Whitford agreed to join the band once again.

With the new reunion, the band also fired their managers Leber and Krebs, hired new manager Tim Collins ( who was managing Joe Perry ) and signed a new record contract with Geffen Records.
