In 1947, the building became the North Riding College, used for teacher training.
However, a downturn in numbers of trainee teachers in the early 1990s led to an expansion into undergraduate degrees, and the college became known as University College Scarborough, offering BSc and BA degree-level courses in an effort to avert closure.
The building was obtained by the University of Hull in 2000, giving it its current name.
