Across the turn of the third millennium, the school fell under darker clouds when, in the years following 1998, five UCC staff were accused of sexual abuse or of possessing child pornography ; three were convicted of some of the charges against them.
Then, in 2003, 18 students sued UCC, claiming sexual abuse by Doug Brown, who taught at the Prep from 1975 to 1993 and was eventually found guilty in 2004 of indecent assault and sentenced to jail.
However, one of the 18 plaintiffs, facing his own child abuse charges, continued with a $ 19 million case specifically against the college.
In response, UCC formed a review team to assess school policies and create new ones, which reported in May 2003 that emphasis should be placed on identifying and preventing misconduct before it occurs.
