During the practice of sexual alchemy, the Kundalini is said to awaken which is claimed to be a conscious spiritual force which is often represented by a serpent coiled at the base of the spinal column.

According to the Gnostic teachings, while performing the practice daily in an intensive and specific manner, the Kundalini eventually rises up the spinal column, vertebra by vertebra, awakening the chakras and psychic faculties as it rises and giving birth to spiritual bodies in higher dimensions.

Samael Aun Weor claims this is what was meant by Jesus when he spoke of the need to be born-again, born of the spirit.
