This period included the resurrections of Colossus and Psylocke, a new death for Jean Grey, who later returned temporarily in the X-Men: Phoenix-Endsong miniseries, as well as Emma Frost becoming the new headmistress of the Institute, a position that was formerly Jean Grey's before her death.

The Institute formerly ran as a large-scale school, until the depowering of most of the mutant population.

It now serves as a safe haven to those mutants who are still powered, and as the home of the X-Men.
