* The Creation ( Haydn ), a 1798 oratorio by Joseph Haydn

Schmidt's crowning achievement was the oratorio Das Buch mit sieben Siegeln ( 1935 – 37 ), a setting of passages from the Book of Revelation.

The oratorio, called Not the Messiah ( He's a Very Naughty Boy ), was commissioned to be part of the festival called Luminato in Toronto, Ontario, in June 2007, and was written / scored by Idle and John Du Prez, who also worked with Idle on Spamalot.

The two then went their separate ways, and Sullivan produced his Festival Te Deum ( 1872 ), an oratorio, The Light of the World ( 1873 ), and other pieces, including incidental music for West End productions of several Shakespeare plays.

The following year he produced his oratorio Die Israeliten in der Wüste ( The Israelites in the Desert ), a composition remarkable not only for its great beauty but for the resemblance of its plan to that of Felix Mendelssohn's Elijah.

One of those stage works, Jeanne d ' Arc au bûcher ( 1935 ), a " dramatic oratorio " ( to words by Paul Claudel ), is thought of as one of his finest works.

His works include an oratorio Rebekah, The Lord is King ( Psalm 97 ), many services and anthems, and 246 hymn tunes ( published in 1897 in one volume ), as well as some partsongs ( among them the popular Sweet and Low ), and some pieces for the pipe organ.

Among his works as a composer are Royal Wedding Serenata ( 1863 ), concert overture Les Travailleurs de la mer ( 1869 ), the oratorio Gideon ( produced Gloucester, 1871 ), overture to William Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost ( 1875 ), Piano Concerto in A minor, marches and songs.

Four of his daughters ( of whom the youngest, Mary, married Charles Cowden Clarke ) were gifted singers ; but the most famous was Clara Novello ( 1818 – 1908 ), whose beautiful high soprano and pure style made her one of the greatest vocalists, in opera as well as in oratorio and on the concert stage, from 1833 onwards.

In subsequent poetical works he was more successful, notably the Fall of Jerusalem ( 1820 ) and The Martyr of Antioch ( 1822, based on the life of Saint Margaret the Virgin ), which was used as the basis for an oratorio by Arthur Sullivan.

He interrupted his work on Les Béatitudes to produce ( among many shorter works ) the oratorio Rédemption ( 1871, revised 1874 ), the secular cantata Les Éolides ( 1876 ), the Trois Pièces for organ ( 1878 ), and the piano Quintet ( 1879 ).

His best known work is the oratorio Les sept paroles du Christ (" The Seven Last Words of Christ " ), which continues to be given an occasional airing ; his Toccata in G ( 1889 ), for the organ, is also heard now and then.

The Creation () is an oratorio written between 1796 and 1798 by Joseph Haydn ( H. 21 / 2 ), and considered by many to be his masterpiece.

In addition, Zaid has designed several billboards for 7-Up, and hundreds of logos, including Miami Beach Sports, Upper Crust Sandwich Shop, The Dawg House, Florida Bay Mortgage, The Conch Farm, Chateau Le Chat, and The Market Company, and packaging for Kleenex tissues, Celestial Seasonings Herb Teas, Florence Gunnarson Perfumed Essentials, Captain Condom, Tropical Delicious, Tropic Lines ( Jamaica ), We Take The Cake, and Granny Bear Honey.

* Richard Strauss's standard repertory opera Ariadne auf Naxos was preceded by a L ' Arianna each by Claudio Monteverdi and Carlo Agostino Badia, by an opera Ariadne ( 1691 ) by German composer Johann Georg Conradi, and by non-operatic Ariadne auf Naxos works including a cantata based on the Heinrich Wilhelm von Gerstenberg poem and Jiri Antonin Benda's melodrama Ariadne auf Naxos ( Benda ), and by Joseph Haydn's cantata Arianna a Naxos.

The enthusiasm for operas based on Ariosto continued into the Classical era and beyond with such examples as Niccolò Piccinni's Roland ( 1778 ), Haydn's Orlando paladino ( 1782 ), Méhul's Ariodant ( 1799 ) and Simon Mayr's Ginevra di Scozia ( 1801 ).

Nicola Porpora, ( much later to be Haydn's master ), set the work to music, and the success was so great that the famed Roman prima donna, Marianna Bulgarelli, " La Romanina ", sought out Metastasio, and took him on as her protégé.

Toward the end of his active career Haydn wove the theme of the second movement into an aria of his oratorio The Seasons ( 1801 ), in which the bass soloist depicts a plowman whistling Haydn's tune as he works.

* In Haydn's Symphony No. 60 in C ( Il Distratto ), the first and second violins start the finale of this unusual six-movement symphony with the lowest string tuned to F, but tune up to G in the course of the music to create a comical effect.

After some fugal development, it is suddenly and dramatically interrupted by martial sounds ( a convention in the 18th century, as in Haydn's Missa in tempore belli ), but after repeated pleas of " miserere!

Long after Haydn's death, his melody was used as the tune of Hoffmann von Fallersleben's Das Lied der Deutschen ( 1841 ), whose text begins " Deutschland, Deutschland über alles ".

The Academy has also recorded Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Handel's Orlando and Rinaldo, Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, Haydn's L ' anima del filosofo and over 200 other recordings for Decca, Harmonia Mundi ( France ), EMI and the new live recording label Wigmore Hall Live.

Over the course of three years during Haydn's old age ( starting 15 April 1805, ending 8 August 1808 ), he made a series of 30 visits to the frail and ailing composer.

He spent his summers in Eisenstadt and annually composed a mass for the name day of the Prince's wife ( and Haydn's friend ), Princess Maria Josepha Hermenegild ( 1768 – 1845 ).

While acting as accompanist to his sister at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Edge Hill, Liverpool, he sang ' Et incarnatus est ' from Haydn's Second Mass, reading from the same score as Julius Stockhausen, as a trial, and obtained a place as bass soloist, modelling himself upon the style of the Austrian bass Josef Staudigl ( 1807 – 1861 ), and of the German bass Karl Formes ( 1815 – 1889 ) ( whom he heard as Sarastro in London ).

Lilith Sternin starts as a one-time character in the Season 4 episode, " Second Time Around " ( 1985 ), but then she becomes a recurring character since Season 5 ( 1986 – 87 ), although she is a permanent character for Seasons 10 and 11 ( 1991 – 93 ).

His annual contributions for the Boy Scouts ' calendars between 1925 and 1976 ( Rockwell was a 1939 recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award, the highest adult award given by the Boy Scouts of America ), were only slightly overshadowed by his most popular of calendar works: the " Four Seasons " illustrations for Brown & Bigelow that were published for 17 years beginning in 1947 and reproduced in various styles and sizes since 1964.

The palace served as the location for the drama film A Man for All Seasons ( 1966 ), directed by Fred Zinnemann.

Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption is a novella by Stephen King, from his collection Different Seasons ( 1982 ), subtitled Hope Springs Eternal.

Most of these pieces have been collected in King's five short story collections: Night Shift ( 1978 ), Skeleton Crew ( 1985 ), Nightmares & Dreamscapes ( 1993 ), Everything's Eventual ( 2002 ), and Just After Sunset ( 2008 ); and in King's four novella collections: Different Seasons ( 1982 ), Four Past Midnight ( 1990 ), Hearts in Atlantis ( 1999 ), and Full Dark, No Stars ( 2010 ).

Highlights of his career in modern theatre include the roles of Sir Thomas More in Robert Bolt's A Man for All Seasons ( 1960 ), Charles Dyer in Dyer's play Staircase, staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966, the definitive Laurie in John Osborne's A Hotel in Amsterdam ( 1968 ), and Antonio Salieri in the original stage production of Peter Shaffer's Amadeus ( 1979 ).

He did this not only for Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino, but also Ridley Scott ( The Duellists ), Paul Schrader ( Blue Collar ), James Toback ( Fingers ), and Tony Bui ( Three Seasons ).

Zinnemann's fortunes changed once again with A Man for All Seasons ( 1966 ), scripted by Robert Bolt from his own play and starring Paul Scofield as Sir Thomas More, portraying him as a man driven by conscience to his ultimate fate.
