McCullough worked as legislative counsel for New Mexico Senator Harrison Schmitt, as a counsel to the United States Senate, and finally as an assistant United States Attorney in the eastern district of North Carolina from 1981 through 1996, when he left to enter private practice.

McCullough left in July 1968 to join Joe Cocker's Grease Band, and was briefly replaced by Al O ' Donnell.

He only played ten matches that season, but after Len Wills was moved to right back at the start of 1959-60, McCullough became the Gunners ' regular left back.
