Honda and CR-X
The Honda CR-X, originally launched as the Honda Ballade Sports CR-X in Japan, is a front-wheel-drive sports compact car that was manufactured by Honda between 1983 and 1991.
In 1992, Honda replaced the CR-X with a new, Targa topped, Civic-based model called the Honda Civic del Sol, otherwise known as simply the Honda del Sol.
It is because of this that the del Sol is generally considered the " 3rd Generation CR-X " among enthusiasts, although it was arguably a very different car and Honda had seemingly quite different design goals when they built it.
The Civic platform also served as the basis for the CR-X sport compact, the CR-X del Sol targa convertible, the Honda Concerto, the first generation Honda Prelude, the Honda Civic Shuttle ( later to become the Honda Orthia ), and the CR-V compact SUV.
As a result, Japanese market Accords had a Honda Verno styling feature, but were sold at newly established Japanese dealerships Honda Clio with the all-new, luxury Honda Legend sedan, and international Accords were now visually aligned with the Prelude, the CR-X, and the new Integra.
The Honda CR-X was the only three-door hatchback that adopted a fastback, sloping rear hatch, demonstrating a performance car appearance identified with Honda Verno products during the mid 1980s.
Honda and SiR
Continuing in the sporty tradition of the original Civic SiR, Honda sold several similarly equipped variants of the fifth generation car, still referred to as the Civic SiR, in Japan, Asia, and Europe.
The VTEC trim level ( called the " SiR " in Japan and the " VTi " in Europe ) was added in 1994 in the United States ( The CR-X Model in Japan had the B16A engine with though ), with the first appearance of a 160 hp ( 119 kW ) Honda DOHC VTEC B-series engine in a U. S .- spec Honda ; similar to the B16A found in the JDM Civic SiR-II.
Due to the success of the Super Saloon, Nissan Philippines introduced the Super Touring and GTS, to compete with the Toyota Corolla TRD ( limited edition ) and 160 hp Honda Civic SiR sedan.
