Bartholomew and River
Pine Bluff is home to a number of creeks, streams, bayous ( Bayou Bartholomew is the longest bayou in the world and is the second most diverse stream in the United States ), and larger bodies of water such as Lake Saracen, Lake Langhofer ( Slack Water Harbor ) and the Arkansas River.
The river flows generally south through the state, collecting the tributary waters of Bayou Bartholomew, Bayou de Loutre, Bayou d ' Arbonne, the Boeuf River, and the Tensas River.
The highway then follows the Southwest Miramichi River passing through Ludlow, New Bandon, Amostown, Nelson Hollow, before arriving in Doaktown intersecting with Route 123 then crossing the Southwest Miramichi River and following the North side of the river north-east through the communities of Blissfield, Upper Blackville, The Lots, then finally Blackville where it is known as Main Street intersecting with Route 118 the road then follows the Bartholomew River North-east towards Renous.
The village became inhabited in the early 19th century and in 1869 a forge was established by Bartholomew Tiernan on land adjacent to the Nanny River, some of his metalwork, commissioned for the cottages can still be seen to this day in Julianstown.

The Bartholomew River begins in the hills between the Main Southwest Miramichi and Dungarvon Rivers at approximately N46. 60, W66. 30, in western Northumberland County.
The Flatrock River rises near Mooreland in northeastern Henry County, and flows generally southwestwardly through Rush, Decatur, Shelby and Bartholomew counties, past the communities of Lewisville, Rushville and St. Paul.
