St. John Vianney Parish was established on July 5, 1946 as the third Catholic parish in South St. Paul, under the direction of Father Harold Whittet.

During the 1996-1997 school year, the St. John Vianney Little Learners Preschool became fully accredited with the kindergarten through sixth grade program.

Private schools within the township include the Roman Catholic Diocese of Trenton's St. John Vianney High School and St. Benedict School, a kindergarten through eighth grade Catholic school that feeds into St. John Vianney.

The Holy See itself granted authorisation to use the Tridentine Mass to a significant number of priests and priestly societies, such as the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, and the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney.

Saint John Vianney attributed to her intercession the extraordinary cures that others attributed to himself.

The spread of devotion to her in France as well as in Italy was helped when Saint John Vianney built a shrine in her honour and referred to her often, attributing to her the miracles that others attributed to himself.

Traditionalist Catholic organizations such as the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest and the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney have been permitted to retain the subdiaconate, as well as other pre-1970 forms of the Roman Rite liturgy.

Several officially-approved societies of traditionalist priests exist, most notably the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter ( FSSP ), the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest ( ICRSS ), the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer, the Institute of the Good Shepherd ( IGS ), the Servants of Jesus and Mary ( Servi Jesu et Mariae, SJM ), the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem ( CRNJ ), the Canons Regular of Saint John Cantius ( SJC ), the Fraternity of Saint Vincent Ferrer, and the Personal Apostolic Administration of Saint John Mary Vianney ( PAASJV ).
