Set in 1485 at the end of the British Middle Ages, the series is written as a secret history which contends that King Richard III won the Battle of Bosworth Field, only to be mistaken for someone else and murdered, and is succeeded by Richard IV ( Brian Blessed ), one of the Princes in the Tower.

Sir Thomas Malory's Le Morte d ' Arthur (" The Death of Arthur "), written in 1485, was important in defining the ideal of chivalry which is essential to the modern concept of the knight as an elite warrior sworn to uphold the values of faith, loyalty, courage, and honour.

Although the Henry VI trilogy may not have been written in chronological order, the three plays are often grouped together with Richard III to form a tetralogy covering the entire Wars of the Roses saga, from the death of Henry V in 1422 to the rise to power of Henry VII in 1485.

Among them is Daz buch von guter spise (" The Book of Good Food ") written c. 1350 in Würzberg and Kuchenmeysterey (" Kitchen Mastery "), the first printed German cook book from 1485.

First published in 1485 by William Caxton, Le Morte d ' Arthur is perhaps the best-known work of English-language Arthurian literature today.

These were followed, in Italy, by the Herbarium of Apuleius Platonicus and three German works published in Mainz, the Latin Herbarius ( 1484 ), the first herbal published in Germany, German Herbarius ( 1485 ), the latter evolving into the Ortus Sanitatis ( 1491 ).

The first edition of the Ikkarim appeared at Soncino, 1485 ; it was published with a commentary under the title of " Ohel Ya ' aḲob ," by Jacob ben Samuel Koppelman ben Bunem, of Brzesc ( Kuyavia ), Freiburg, 1584, and with a larger commentary by Gedeliah ben Solomon Lipschitz, Venice, 1618.
