" Amazing Grace " is a Christian hymn with words written by the English poet and clergyman John Newton ( 1725 – 1807 ), published in 1779.

He was one of the founders of the Geological Society of London in 1807 and was its honorary secretary in 1812 – 1817.

* 1807 – Robert Fulton's North River Steamboat, the world's first commercially successful steamboat, makes her maiden voyage.

Boulton and Watt had been involved in a minor way with attempts to apply steam power to boats, providing in 1807 for Robert Fulton the engine for North River Steamboat, the first steamboat to run on the Hudson river, ( the boat later referred to as the Clermont ).

Their daughter Ellen Marion Kinzie, believed to be the first European child of European descent born in Chicago, was born in 1805 ; followed by Maria Indiana in 1807, and Robert Allen Kinzie in 1810.

The county's name is often assumed to be in honor of inventor Robert Fulton, who built the first successful steamboat in 1807.

Robert Fulton built the first commercially successful steam paddleship in the US, the ( also known as Clermont ) in 1807, using a Boulton and Watt engine.

Cunningham contributed some songs to Roche's Literary Recreations in 1807, and in 1809 he collected old ballads for Robert Hartley Cromek's Remains of Nithsdale and Galloway Song ; he sent in, however, poems of his own, which the editor inserted, even though he may have suspected their real authorship.

His Remains, with his letters and an account of his life, were edited ( 5 vols., 1807 – 1822 ) by Robert Southey.

Archibald Acheson, 2nd Earl of Gosford GCB ( 1 August 1776 – 27 March 1849, Markethill ), styled The Honourable Archibald Acheson from 1790 to 1806 and Lord Acheson from 1806 to 1807, was a British politician who served as Lieutenant-Governor of Lower Canada and Governor General of British North America in the 19th century.

He traveled extensively in North America, and his approach and work gained him some fame ; in 1807 he was named Lord-Lieutenant of Kirkcudbright, Scotland, and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of London.

The town of North Stonington was set off as a parish from Stonington in 1724 and incorporated as a town in 1807.

David Thompson, working for the Montreal-based North West Company, explored much of the region beginning in 1807, with his friend and colleague Simon Fraser following the Fraser River to its mouth in 1808, attempting to ascertain whether or not it was the Columbia, as had been theorized about it in its northern reaches through New Caledonia, where it was known by its Dakleh name as the " Tacoutche Tesse ".

Explorer David Thompson of the British-owned North West Company and later Hudson's Bay Company — HBC penetrated the Oregon Country from the north, via Athabasca Pass, arriving in 1807.

The post was named Fort William in 1807 after William McGillivray, chief director of the North West Company from 1804-1821.

Jesse Franklin ( March 24, 1760 – August 31, 1823 ) was the Democratic-Republican U. S. senator from the U. S. state of North Carolina between 1799 and 1805 and between 1807 and 1813.

He resigned his seat in the Senate in 1807 to return to the state Superior Court, but was there for only a year before being elected Governor of North Carolina by the legislature in November 1808.

Benjamin Williams ( 1 January 175120 July 1814 ) was the 11th and 14th Governor of the U. S. state of North Carolina, from 1799 to 1802 and from 1807 to 1808.

Nathaniel Alexander ( March 5, 1756March 7, 1808 ) was the 13th Governor of the U. S. state of North Carolina from 1805 to 1807.

Alexander Martin ( 1740November 10, 1807 ) was the fourth and seventh Governor of the U. S. state of North Carolina from 1782 to 1784 and from 1789 to 1792.

Also an advocate for education, Martin served on the Board of Trustees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 1790 until his death in 1807.

He did return to politics during the last years of his life, serving from 1805 to 1807 as Speaker of the North Carolina Senate.
